Neighborhood Walks

It's been nice to just take pictures of things without even thinking if they're going to make sense at all. And to be honest I don't usually have a goal in mind when I'm out shooting things other than telling myself to just bring a camera and shoot

What's been making me happy about photography again is just the fact that I can be a bit aimless and allow myself the opportunity to just explore without having to be tied to any sort of "project" at the moment. The other day I watched a brief bit of Office Hours with Ruben Radding which is a segment that Paulie B does in his YouTube channel. He had a photographer there seeking some advice about the approaches of her work. The basic takeaway I got from that was the fact that Ruben validates that "not everything needs to be a project right now" and that "sometimes making specific pictures that becomes tied to a project can be both stressful and tiresome and can easily ween out the joy of photo making".

That right there almost solidified my reasoning as to why photo projects haven't been a thing to me for a long time. For the most part the pictures I've been taking or using from my back catalogue have been linked to records I've been releasing. This approach sort of sparked up some interest to just take pictures and make records simultaneously. For that I'm very thankful both of these mediums are realized and utilized in my life. As far as a full fledged photo project I'm just not that interested in doing it to tell you the truth. I just like to take pictures and present them. It's a fun way to exercise the eye and to look at things a bit differently.

For the time being I'm liking what's been going on creatively. I can't necessarily say that a lot of the images that I have are these amazing compositions that can be magazine print worthy. I'm more interested in the fact that the journaling aspect of this work is what's keeping me afloat along with the idea of exercising the eye to make pictures. It's fun and that's how it should be.

Mk.gee at Toads Place

Lately I've been trying to be a bit more present on going to shows these days, but as I grow older I try to be a bit more selective towards the ones I want to watch. I can't necessarily keep up with all the music that's loading up, but I can try my best to find new artists. Mk.gee is one of them.

Sad thing is that the show wasn't as good as I thought it would've been. Though that I enjoyed some songs that were played live a lot of it was a bit droney and one point mk.gee performed one song a total of like 6 or 7 times. I was already over it on the 3rd play of the repeat. It kinda left pissed off knowing how bad the show was to me, but it could've been the mood I was in. At the same time the new songs he recently released are incredible and I think that maybe I can see him again in a time where he's a bit more collected with music and has better production. Till then I'll continue to listen to his records.
